Thomas G. Kelly, MD
Dr. Thomas Kelly believes that the key to empowering children and their families is through education. Whether the challenges are medical, social, psychological, or developmental, Dr. Kelly is committed to teaching his patients about how best to manage any and all hurdles.
A native San Diegan, Dr. Kelly ’s interest in working with children and their families dates back to his role as an educator at Sea World. Dr. Kelly went on to complete his internship and residency in Pediatrics at New York Medical College where he was awarded the Gustav Stringle award for the hardest working resident. He then completed a fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at Yale University School of Medicine. While at Yale, he was selected for and served as Medical Director for Camp Clara Barton, a camp for children with diabetes.
Dr. Kelly is excited about moving into a private practice setting in Hillcrest where his endocrine patients can have access to same day appointments and personalized care. At the same time, Dr. Kelly’s relationship with Rady Children’s Hospital shall remain unchanged and he will continue to be able to accept most all forms of insurance. Specifically, all of his patients will have the exact same access to specialists, radiology, labs, inpatient services and ancillary support that they have always had in the past. Dr. Kelly is especially pleased about his added ability to meet the needs of children with chronic illnesses (including diabetes and cancer) in his new pediatric office.
Dr. Kelly serves on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. He has also been selected as the Pediatric Endocrinologist on the Dr. D Radio Podcast, an online radio show discussing topics related to the well-being of pregnancies, women, children and families.
Dr. Kelly enjoys spending time with his immediate and extended families in San Diego. He is blessed with the support of his loving wife, Vanessa, who is also a pediatric dietician at Rady Children’s Hospital. He loves the outdoors, everything Star Wars and values every minute of quality time that he is able to spend with his two sons, Devin and Max.
